Searching for Whitopia An Improbable Journey to the Heart of White America (Book): Benjamin, Rich: "As America becomes more and more racially diverse, Rich Benjamin noticed a phenomenon: Some communities were actually getting less multicultural. Benjamin packed his bags and embarked on a 26,mile journey throughout the heart of white America, to some of the fastest . Clip: Searching for Whitopia February 6, Coming Apart: The State of White America, Charles Murray argued that white America’s classes have diverged in a way different than ever.

In earlier posts, I mentioned that I was reading a new book by Rich Benjamin, Searching for Whitopia: An Improbable Journey to the Heart of White America. Well, I finished it last night while waiting for “Curb Your Enthusiasm” to come on. Searching for Whitopia On the day this show was produced the eyes of the nation were on the special election in to fill the Massachusetts Senate seat vacated by Ted Kennedy. Democrat Martha Coakley faced an unexpectedly stiff challenge from Republican Scott Brown.

In Searching for Whitopia, Rich Benjamin relates the two-year journey he took across what he calls "white America." He lists every city in the U.S. that is "whiter than the nation, its respective region, and its state," and he lives in three of them for roughly three months apiece- St. George in Utah, Coeur d'Alene in Idaho, and Forsyth County /5(8). The book Searching for Whitopia, to me literally means white-utopia. There are many contributors showing that Forsyth is a primarily a white county. Some of them being quotes and others being facts.
